This talk considers the transformative role of digital gaming in nurturing access to information, promoting technical skills, and fostering digital citizenship in the global South. Drawing on observations from situated ethnographic work conducted in a Caracas, Venezuela cybercafé during early 2005 that focused on the integration of digital gaming with daily activities. The talk will emphasize the intricate interplay between digital play, knowledge sharing, and piracy, underscoring how environments like cybercafés can act as crucial hubs for informal technological pedagogy in areas with limited access to formal training. This positions digital gaming not merely as entertainment but as a right of citizenship.
